![]() The Sound Canvas, back then, and to a degree, still today, was the standard for MIDI and multimedia - thanks to the GM (General MIDI) and GS (General Standard) protocols. ![]() ![]() SURPRISINGLY enough, a few sounds are very, very good (ocarina and bagpipes come to mind). The example in my possession is the scaled version of that machine (very similar). The D-50, M1 and SY77 were still going strong, and the U-20 blew the keyboardists' minds with its incredible (for the time, of course) sampled sound sets!īut back to the Sound Canvas story. Those were great, exciting times for the synthesizer industry. That particular model even came with a remote control! In the early '90s, Roland had a major hit with the famous SC-55 Sound Canvas - giving birth to a whole market of minisynths that looked like autoradios.
